checking out the sound of an amp on youtube is pointless.

plus comparing anything that's digital is pointless at low volume.

So you can't tell the difference between the vypyr and say a roalnd cube or line6 spider 3? I can hear all of the characteristics going on and distinguish tones very easily over youtube. If you watch enough videos you get a good idea of its sound.

Check this one out:

they're digital engineering of sound. the quality of sound is practically impertinent because it's not about the gear, it's about the settings and programming of it.

at high volume, that's where you can't fake a tube amp.
it's not about being able to tell the difference, there shouldn't be any difference.

what makes you think the vypyr is going to cut out at loud volumes? Peavey makes pretty good shit, the 5150/6505 is a classic.

this is a pretty sweet demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbP7ubFnIis&feature=related

This is fucking hilarious. You complain constantly about how over-compressed modern music is, but you claim to be able to ascertain the quality of an amplifier's tone from a youtube video - a site notorious for its horrendous compression algorithm.

What I was referring to is over use of compression in the mastering stage. Yes it may be a mediocre representation its sound but some of the clips I've post have pretty decent mics on the cameras and you can get a GENERAL IDEA of its tonality and features.

So if that same compression was applied to the master channel before tracking had even begun, it would be cool? And considering that YouTube's compression will be the last audio processing the video undergoes, it is analogous to over-compressing during mastering, the very thing you incessantly preach against. If you want to argue semantics, at least do it in such a way that it actually helps you make a point.
