Hi,

I don't want to bother with a tremolo system because I change tuning a lot to play different songs, so I am looking at this fixed-bridge Ibanez RGR321EX.

Is this a good guitar? I watched some Youtube demos and I think it sounds great, plus I already own a lower-end RG guitar, this is like an upgrade. But I'm curious if any of you have an expert opinion.

Thanks.

No, it's not pointy enough.

Oh I know man. I've settled for being not truly metal, just want a good guitar.

Get it, then change the pickups.

Thanks, I bought the guitar and it makes my previous RG look and sound like garbage.

Will be replacing the pickups too.

Cool, I got the RGR320 (same, but with tremolo) and I have blocked the tremolo. Got Seymour Duncan Blackouts in there, they're sshhaaaweeeet!

the Ibanez stock pickups suck for sure. I use Bill Lawrence L-500XL's.. love those things!!!

ibanez guitars can be used for metal for sure, swap the pickups out (spend the extra few bucks for hi-q shit), and you should be happy with it. With guitars at least I find that you need something more comfortable and that has a good unplugged sound (sounds stupid right?).

That way you know the tonewoods are nice, and the pickups, electronics, and all hardware can be swapped out.

Good thread.
Decent Guitar.
S.D. Blackouts are killer pickups.
I recommend the plug and play pickups. If they are not in stock, order them.
If a guitar sounds good unplugged, that's the one you buy.

I think the guitar would be great for metal. I play a similar Ibanez (mine's an RG08) and I love it. I put new pickups in mine (EMG's) and I play it through a Peavey half stack. I can get decent metal tones using a Boss DS-2 distortion pedal on the turbo setting. I also have an Ibanez ICX-220 with stock pickups and it sounds pretty good too but not as gnarly as the EMG's.
